Marie-Helene Rake

My designs often evolve from the juxtaposition of geometric shapes and organic textures and movement.

Working primarily with silver, the coordination of material and design gives life to each piece, each as individual as nature’s creation which is a constant source of awe and inspiration. The techniques I use range from forging and fold forming to casting elements and simple construction.

Born in France, but residing in the U.S. for more than 40 years now, my creative instincts have been shaped by a lifetime of travel throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and America. My education in the arts ranges from informal observations to formal instruction in techniques and design at the craft center at the University of Oregon, Eugene Community College as well as workshops, lectures and classes in the Pacific Northwest.

My previous experience working with ceramic and textile has served to develop my sense of form and color.
